Summary

Menopause is one of the most common and overlooked workforce issues affecting organizations today. The menopausal transition can begin as early as the late 30s, meaning the employees navigating perimenopause and menopause are often the same people carrying the institutional knowledge, leadership experience, and mentoring relationships their organizations depend on.

In this session, Julie Parana will help HR leaders understand how menopause can affect employees at work, why symptoms are often misunderstood as performance or attitude concerns, and what the evidence tells us about the organizational impact.

Attendees will also explore the gaps employees face when seeking care, practical and affordable workplace accommodations, emerging legal considerations, and steps organizations can take to provide meaningful, evidence-based support.

Key Takeaways

  • Recognize how perimenopause and menopause symptoms may appear in the workplace and why they are sometimes mistaken for performance or attitude concerns.
  • Understand the organizational impact of unmanaged menopause, including absenteeism, presenteeism, turnover, and healthcare costs.
  • Identify practical, low-cost accommodations and policy approaches that can better support employees.
  • Explore the evolving legal landscape and ways to bring evidence-based menopause education into the workplace.
